Yes. Oh YESSSSSS it will.
Actually it already has been because I'm challenging myself.
#1. My poetry book is officially published (look on the side of my blog to purchase!) and I couldn't be happier with it. The colors, the art work... just all of it is absolutely amazing. I really put a lot into that one (tears, joy, grief, all of the emotions). I'm really proud of that one!
#2. I'm creating my own brand of unique journals! Yeah. I'm doing this! Ahhhh!!! Seriously, I can't wait to see them. One day I was just messing around on a picture/graphic designing page and I created this funky styled journal page and then copied several of them into a book. I also created several different cover art designs, which are EPIC (said the 30-something year old)... I will definitely be sharing them on this page. Fingers crossed they get here Tuesday, when they said they would!
#3. I entered into my very first writing contest. This was a pretty big one with over 6,000 writers from all over the world! I was placed into a genre category, then given a concept, and a character trait. Then I had 8 days to write the story. It needed to be below 2,500 words. It was challenging, but also so much fun! Sometimes... and I say sometimes... I do better under a little pressure and this was the case. I was running out of time because I ended up having a lot going on last week. This one is pretty amazing because the judges give you feedback about your story. There are also 3 more rounds. If you pass the first one, you move on to the next and the challenges get harder. The grand prize is $6,500! Did I say that there was over 6,000 writers involved? I'm happy that I entered and I wrote a good story. At least the two avid readers in my family told me that my story was good. There were 28 writers in my specific genre and they choose the top 5 to move on. It would be AMAZING to be chosen as one of them.
I honestly think entering that contest was good for me because it showed me that I can write fiction (I have only about 1/4 of the story written right now). I need to KEEP WRITING because I know that is what I'm meant to do... besides teaching of course. :) I know now I need to set goals for myself. I've decided to plan out my storyline better and schedule one full scene every two weeks. This makes it realistic for me, and if I get better at it I can move it to every week.
